Beautify Featured in Cosmopolitan!!

When the feminine, sophisticated, young and peppy peter pan collars sprung up on the runways of Miu Miu, Mouis Vuitton last season, it was a delight. It has been since spotted on celebs and have been a hit from high-fashion to high-street alike. But don't get fooled that they're last season thing.

The ubiquity of these collars have not taken off its popularity as they continue to be the collar and accessory choice of designers for their upcoming collections (Victoria Beckham revamped them in her A/W 2012 line).

Now you must be wondering why do I need a detachable collar when I can wear th whole shirt? You ought to probably scroll down and see some interesting looks that these PP detachable's can create. What can I say? A picture is worth a thousand words......

A detachable collar is a great way to revive your outfit or pep-up a boring one. So when Cosmopolitan Magazine asked me to do a DIY tutorial for their July issue, Peter Pan Collar DIY as my obvious choice.

Beautify-flr Peter Pan Collar DIY - as featured in Cosmopolitan July 2012 Issue

Wear preppy meets girly aesthetic with your own easy to make Peter Pan collar in four simple steps as shown in Cosmopolitan 2012 issue.

Here's are the easy to find items you’ll need to create your PP collar -
  1. Half meter of any good fabric preferably rich material like velvet
  2. Half meter canvas cloth for lining
  3. 1 yard of matching ribbon
  4. Needle, thread and scissors

Step 1:
Cut out two half moon patterns from paper, then cut that shape out of your fabric and canvas cloth using that paper pattern (or an existing collar of same shape)

Step 2:
Once the fabrics are cut, sew the canvas and the fabric together so that the two half moons are ready.

Step 3:
When the two half moons are lined with canvas, overlap the wider end pieces and sew together on the back, without interlocking the front end of the fabric. Alternatively, you can use a decorative button and use it to sew the pieces together

Step 4:
Cut two lengths of the ribbon of equal length and sew one string on each of the smakllr ends of the collar.
Voila!!! That’s it, you are done.
Wear it with your shift dress or a simple top to collar pop or add some sparkle (or feminine touch).

Trend Watch: STRIPES, STRIPES, STRIPEY

Icy drinks, flip flops, flip-flops digging in the sand, loads of sunblock every few hours and lazing in the sun are all the perfect summer staples. However you can't beat the summer without essential summer wardrobe items. Now it's a no brainer - STRIPE is the outrageous summer trend that never goes out of style. It's easy to wear and when paired with the right accessories can be worn from day-to-night (its called clever styling).

Here are some of the best easy-to-wear summer looks that you could take some hints from and look stylish despite the skyrocketing temperature this SUMMER.

Zoe Saldana is wearing stripes in three different looks and rocking them all.

Zoe strolling down the streets of NYC in American Stripes (red, white and blue) wearing Madewell Dress with cool sunglasses and a slingbag.

Zoe Saldana nails it again in a colourful vividly striped racerback maxi dress from Slpendid pepped up with a studded bracelet and  Adina Reyter Large Triangle Earrings and studded brown belt. She added the flip flops giving it a perfect summer look.

Zoe Saldana again striping along with Emmy Rossum and January Jones in $500 Express striped dress. All three ladies look great but Zoe Saldana gets brownie points for mixing it with tan accessories and those hoops.

Victoria Secret's angel Alessandra Ambrosio pumps up the stripes by keeping it classic - the perfect nautical look. Alessandra working a wonderful blue and white look in an Ella Moss striped tank layered with a white cardi teamed with cuffed blue denims.

Speaking of classic, now how adorable Taylor Swift by taking a not-so classic striped bursting with colours. Her look shouts SUMMER - colours a cute summer multi-coloured striped dress, polka-dotty yellow headband. She paired her summery frock with mustard bally pumps, Elie Saab green bag, classic Ray Ban wayfarer sunglasses and red lips. The red lips,, hmmm  am not sure, but hey its Taylor, she nails it!!!!

Katie spotted in two striped looks in less than three days keeping it simple and comfortable in a roomy red and white striped tee and denims and cool shoes. I'm loving her black and white striped look where she keeps it sophisticated and chic with a B/W Derek Lam striped top paired with flared black Holmes and Yang pants (yes from Katie's new fashion line, inspired by friend Beckham?) and pointed pumps. Classic always rocks.

Stripes is not just for a cool laid back look, you can wear them even for a dress-up occasion. Last year Katie Holmes sizzled in a striped dress at a red carpet event (premiere of The Extra Man to be precise) looking young and stylish.

How to dress-up a summer dress? Make your summer dress appropriate for evening  by adding ankle strap stilettoes, a clutch and polished hair and make-up.

Get ready to rock the summer (or whatever is left of it.... and you could wear these even for winter days and nights with right styling).

Cocktail Movie - Wardrobe Check

The promos of Cocktail is already getting all the attention, especially for the wardrobe choices of the characters - Veronica, Meera and Gautam. From the looks of it Cocktail will up Bollywood's ranking in the style department. All thanks to Anaita Shroff Adjaina, the stylist, who did a wonderful job in styling the characters in Cocktail.

The well-clad characters of Cocktail - Veronica aka Deepika Padukone in a sexy, effortless cool style with messy hair, Meera (Diana Penty - the newbie in Bollywood) a simple girl from Delhi in simple yet stylish looks sporting flowy cardigans, tee and jackets while Gautam (played by Saif Ali Khan) stealing the hearts in casual chic look - just putting-on what comes in hand (tees, denims, the forced jacket teamed with jeans for work) still looking put together kind of thing.

Interesting braid....

Not quite feeling the sexy look in this embellished French Connection sheer top and suede skirt paired with Kurt Geiger Hoshiko wine wedges (buy from here) on Deepika.  Bad sartorial choice but she still looks smoking hot (bamm its that fab body, that manages to make her look sexy even in a rucksack). I'd choose a different outfit for creating a sexy look that'd also hit the right chords in the fashion department.

Deepika looks stylish and sexy in green shorts and shirt worn with a brown belt, Tod's bag and boots while Diana works up the simple girl character in a nautical tank worn with a cardi and jeans, perforated bag and loosely braided hair.

It is not just the girls who are stealing the show. Saif Ali Khan looks awesome in Cocktail with his stylish wardrobe choices. Whether it is denims and tee and shorts for the dressed down look or blazers paired with denims for taking the dressy route or his stylish Burberry bag and Jaeger-LeCoultre watch and stylish yet young sunglasses the guy sure works his character and look well. After all Saif Ali Khan is one of the best dressed men in Bollywood.

DIY: Vegan Lip Scrub in 3 steps

It's easy peasy to make your own version of wonderful lip scrub without any harsh chemicals, animal ingredients or artificial anything in 3 simple steps.

Here's what you'll need:
  • two tablespoons demerara sugar
  • two teaspoon maple syrup (replacement for honey)
  • two teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
  • one liquid vitamin E capsule (vegetarian and gelatin free) (optional)
  • jar (optional)
How do these ingredients work?

Brown sugar (demerara sugar) is a great natural exfoliant and is not harsh on the skin, olive oil is abundant in antioxidants and rich in Vitamin A and E hence making it a wonderful moisturiser and it also has a rare potent antioxidant called hydroxytyrosol that prevents free radical damage on skin cells and maple syrup adds a nice subtle flavour and is a natural binder. You can add an extra dose of vitamin E.

Three quick steps for making your lip scrub:

Step 1: Collect all the above ingredients

Step 2: In your mixing bowl combine maple syrup, olive oil, sugar and vitamin E liquid (pop open the capsule and squeeze it in) and whisk them until they bind together and turn into a thick gritty paste.

Step 3: Scoop the scrub in the jar.

Say goodbye to chappy leaps, peeling lip skin, here's your natural yummy lip scrub (think smooth kissable lips).

Pep-up your lip scrub:
  1. Go organic - just swap the above listed ingredients with their organic version.
  2. Are you a sucker for nice flavours? Go vanilla with vanilla brown sugar, if you're lusting chocolate add a tinge of fresh cocoa powder, one teaspoon of strawberry puree for the delectable strawberry flavour just let your imagination run.
  3. You can use coconut oil instead of olive if you prefer coconut flavour.
Caution: Avoid not getting a taste of this delicious lip scrub at your own risk.
